The Regional Governor of Epirus, Mr. Alexandros Kachrimanis, who will retain the reins of the region for the next four years, “unfolds” to GR Traveller his plans for the further development of tourism in Epirus and explains the reasons why the region is an ideal destination for Autumn.<\/p>\n
What are the objectives of the development plan for the next four years as regards tourism?<\/strong><\/p>\n The Region of Epirus has developed and is implementing a strategic plan for tourism, which has so far yielded significant results. The targeting concerns both the internal and external markets. We have assessed the interest expressed by various countries of the world and we are focusing our promotion on those that appear to be privileged with regard to Epirus. Already this plan is paying off, as in recent years, in addition to tourists from major markets such as Germany, Italy, etc., we have constantly How do you plan to attract more Greek travellers to your region?<\/strong><\/p>\n The policy of the Regional Authority of Epirus in tourism has common beneficiaries, both Greeks and foreign citizens. Our goal was and remains not to limit ourselves to one region and one season, but to diffuse visitors throughout Epirus, taking advantage of the natural environment, monuments, culture, gastronomy, nature and sports tourism. Domestic tourism has suffered a decline during the years of the economic crisis and we hope that it will slowly recover and return to its previous level. The completion of the two major road axes, the Egnatia and the Ionian Road, have substantially improved access to Epirus and this is evidenced by the increase in visitors. We hope for the completion of transport projects, such as the connection of the E65 with the Egnatia and the connections with the border, which will certainly give new perspectives to the border regions. We are confident that in the coming years tourism, especially domestic tourism, will recover. This will be helped by the continuous improvement of the services provided, but also by the new interests – the so-called “secrets” – that are constantly being created for visitors. Among these are now the Cultural Route to the Ancient Theatres, the hiking trails, the multiplying sporting events etc. In the horizon of 2-3 years positive results are expected from the Tell us five reasons for Greek travellers to visit your region this autumn.<\/strong><\/p>\n I would not limit myself to a specific number of reasons to invite Greek travellers to visit Epirus this autumn. \nincreasing number of visitors from Israel, Cyprus, Romania etc. Apart from these, we are exploring the prospects of attracting tourists from new emerging tourism markets, such as China, while developing new forms of tourism, such as walking tourism. At the same time, we are upgrading the services provided, both in terms of “shielding” the environment with sewage and biological treatment projects, but also with new infrastructures that we are planning, such as the modernization of shelters, diving parks, etc. An additional initiative concerns the combined promotion of tourism with local continental products, which we have already started and, based on the success we have had, we will extend it to the
\nyears to come.<\/p>\n
\noperation of the thermal baths in Amaranto, Kavassila, Preveza and Arta for which we are preparing a programme of modernisation and upgrading.<\/p>\n
\nThere are sports\/racing events, extreme sports, tours of museums and religious monuments, hunting, fishing, gastronomy and when the first snows fall, skiing at the ski resorts. But what attracts and impresses the visitors of Autumn in Epirus are the impressive colours of nature. It is no coincidence that the most fanatical friends of our region are those who visit it in autumn, something we highly recommend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
