Lake Beletsi<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

At the foot of Parnitha, there is a small wetland, just 30 km from Athens.<\/p>\n

An artificial lake, created in the 1970s, is today an idyllic water landscape that hosts migratory birds as well as ducks, swans, turtles, carp and eels.<\/p>\n

For a spring picnic by the lake and hiking on one of the trails leading high up to Parnitha and the unique church of Agia Triada.<\/p>\n

Cave Koutuki<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

There, high up on Ymittos, on its eastern side, to be precise, and just 25 kilometres from the centre of Athens, is the largest and most impressive cave in Attica, 2 million years old. years old.<\/p>\n

In the Cave of Peania – “Koutouki”, we admire the beautiful stalactites and stalagmites that nature itself has carved as another distinguished sculptor.<\/p>\n

The “Olympic torch”, the “Statue of Liberty”, the “Tower of Pisa” but also a “dragon” and an “elephant” are some of the impressive “exhibits”.<\/p>\n

Museum of History of the University of Athens<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

On the first Sunday of every month, a museum dedicated to the history of the University of Athens opens its doors to the public. There, at the northern foot of the Acropolis, under the imposing monument, Greeks, since 1837, studied Law, Medicine, Theology and Philosophy at the first university in the country and the Balkans.<\/p>\n

It is housed where it started its operation, at 5 Tholou Street in Plaka, in a historic building with a spectacular view of the Holy Rock.<\/p>\n

Waterfall in Drafi <\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The description “oasis of coolness” fits perfectly to this dreamy landscape, half an hour from the center of Athens. Walking down Achaion Avenue in Penteli, you will not believe your eyes at the sight you will see. One – sometimes two – small waterfalls create a natural lake in a green landscape, suitable for swimming on hot spring days and an ideal place for a picnic or a walk with children in nature.<\/p>\n

Agia Fotini Ilisou<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Near the Pillars of Olympian Zeus, right next to the bed of the once sacred river of the ancients, Elisos, is the church of Agia Fotini.<\/p>\n

The idyllic landscape that unfolds around it, attracts many young couples who want to join their lives with the “bonds of marriage”. But others say it also hides “underground secrets”.<\/p>\n

It is said that under the temple passes the underground gallery of the Ilisos and there is an old third-axis bridge from the time of Otto, where it is rumoured, without being confirmed, that it was the entrance to the underground galleries that reached up to Faliro.<\/p>\n

What you can of course visit is the restored church with the carved wooden iconostasis – a copy of Agios Nektarios of Aegina – and tour the surrounding area which is “teeming” with ancient monuments.<\/p>\n
