The tourism relaunch plan presented by the Minister Mr. Harry Theocharis adopted by the World Tourism Organization’s Global Crisis Management Committee<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A comprehensive plan to relaunch tourism was presented by the Minister of Tourism Mr. Harris Theocharis, in his capacity as Chairman of the World Tourism Organization’s (WTO) Global Crisis Management Committee, at a meeting held under the auspices of Saudi Arabia. The subject of the meeting was the re-launch of global tourism for 2021.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u039f \u03ba. Harris Theocharis proposed an action plan which includes four axes: 1) The relaunch of secure cross-border travel, 2) the safe movement of tourists, 3) to provide liquidity to tourism businesses, 4) supporting employment and restoring travellers’ confidence.<\/p>\n

The proposals of the Greek Minister of Tourism were unanimously approved by the plenary session of the World Tourism Organization’s Global Crisis Management Committee and constitute its recommendations to its members.<\/p>\n

As Mr. Theocharis, “the adoption of digital health solutions, or digital vaccination certificates against CVID-19, will ensure the fastest possible restoration of free movement between countries. Europe has adopted the proposal of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and is moving forward with the introduction of a Digital Green Certificate, which will help facilitate travel and consequently boost tourism.”<\/p>\n

Regarding the support of liquidity and employment in the sector, the Minister of Tourism said that “as a whole, the member states of the technical group of the World Tourism Organization’s Global Crisis Management Committee agree that priority should be given to the implementation of liquidity programmes to support the working capital of vulnerable tourism businesses. Equally important is to enhance access to financial instruments, such as subsidized loans, for those tourism businesses that prioritize job creation.”<\/p>\n

In particular, as regards support for labour, Mr. Harris Theocharis stressed that “the development of skills and the promotion of digital transformation guarantee the technological transition of tourism businesses. In this way they become more competitive. Free access to training programmes, supported by digital platforms such as those offered by the P.O.T. Academy for Digital Education, is a step in the right direction.”<\/p>\n

Regarding the restoration of travellers’ confidence, the Minister of Tourism stressed that “it is of primary importance that tourists are clearly aware of the security protocols in place at each destination, as well as their rights in case of possible cancellations or rescheduling of their trip”.<\/p>\n

The meeting of the World Tourism Organization’s Global Crisis Management Committee was attended by the Secretary General of the Organization, Mr.Zurab Pololikashvili, tourism ministers from around the world, tourism industry executives and representatives of international organizations. These included the World Health Organization, the World Civil Aviation Organization and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the World Navigation Organization, etc.<\/p>\n
