According to tradition, the inhabitants here kept pigs in the neighbourhoods to keep the Turks away and when the place was liberated, a way had to be found to get rid of the hundreds of these animals that flooded the streets. This is where the first baking of the hornet&#8217;s nest begins.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><span style=\"color: #666699\"><strong>Leaving Messini we follow the route to the village of Strefi after passing Avramiou with its traditional cafes and taverns.  <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2786\" src=\"https:\/\/grtraveller.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/%CE%9D%CE%A4%CE%95%CE%9C%CE%A0%CE%A1%CE%99%CE%96-%CE%A3%CE%A4%CE%A1%CE%95%CE%A6%CE%991.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1223\" height=\"917\"><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In Strefi we will visit the stone bridge Debris, an architectural gem that is worth looking for by walking and leaving the car outside the village at the only petrol station where the narrow asphalt road starts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">  In a heavenly place, the bridge that connected Pylia with Messene stands proudly while the river water flows uninterruptedly underneath it.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The serenity only opposes the natural charm that surrounds the relief.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #666699\"><em>  village of <b>Manesi<\/b><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/grtraveller.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/%CE%9C%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%95%CE%A33.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2787 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/grtraveller.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/%CE%9C%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%95%CE%A33.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1095\" height=\"1459\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/grtraveller.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/%CE%9C%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%95%CE%A3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2788 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/grtraveller.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/%CE%9C%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%95%CE%A3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1109\" height=\"2472\"><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">From Strefi we will head towards the village <\/span><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">Manesi<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">  and continuing the &#8220;water routes&#8221; just before the entrance of the village we will stop at the amazing waterfall that, although only a few meters from the road, remains unknown. In an idyllic location it once hosted a river party by the imaginative young people of the village.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Like all the villages of the region, Manesi is famous for its good olive oil and figs.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We are well into the hinterland of the Municipality of Messini and we head towards Sterna with its famous taverns and cafes for a short stop before approaching Manganiakos and Trikorfo.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #666699\"><em><strong>Manganese<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2789\" src=\"https:\/\/grtraveller.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/%CE%9C%CE%91%CE%93%CE%93%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%99%CE%91%CE%9A%CE%9F3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1128\" height=\"847\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2790\" src=\"https:\/\/grtraveller.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/%CE%9C%CE%91%CE%93%CE%93%CE%91%CE%9D%CE%99%CE%91%CE%9A%CE%9F1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The next stop is at the stone jewel of Messinia, the <\/span><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">Manganiakos<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">. A beautiful picturesque village full of monuments where the association and its inhabitants have invested in culture, welcomes us. It is known for its festivals and the famous Carnival of Malliaro and the many trails that start from here. The hospitality is the trademark as well as the tree house but especially the old mansions and traditional houses.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We continue to the legendary <\/span><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">\u0390<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">to<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">  where Papaflessas, although he stood for about ten days, did not finally give battle here but in Maniaki, so history has passed it by for a decision initiative of the legendary razophoros. Trikorfo again remains a lively and hospitable village with well-kept squares and alleys and many cafes and catering establishments. Here and the famous &#8220;Gurnopula&#8221; of Panagiotis.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We have left Tricorfo, the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u0390<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and we have entered the heart of the Kontovounia to stop for a while at the beautiful <\/span><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">Koromilia<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> the forgotten in time hidden in the lush vegetation and greenery while we continue to the village of <\/span><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">Kynigou<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">  where it stands like a stone eagle&#8217;s nest. The tour of the village is a unique experience as in all these villages. Full of legends and stories, the village stands the test of time through the love of all those who revive it in the summers with their brief return.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p> <span data-contrast=\"none\"> The <\/span><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">\u03a3<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><b><br \/>\n  <span data-contrast=\"none\">aflauro<\/span><br \/>\n<\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">  stands like a guard over the village and invites you to visit it. You waste no time and in a few minutes you are at the foot of the castle that looks like a mountain. If you climb it, the view from the top is unsurpassable. It is no coincidence that the lynx is said to still live here and there are countless descriptions of its presence. Right here and within a radius of many kilometres lies the K<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">atafigure<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Wild<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> \u0396<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u03c9\u03ae\u03c2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. The unknown mountainous Messinia here is literally breathtaking. <\/span> <span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":1,\"335551620\":1}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">After the castle it is necessary to visit the castle&#8217;s burial grounds. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nikolulia<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">  a well-known warrior who the Turks had resented with his actions. Next to the spring with its name there is a cave &#8211; church with a breathtaking view. Right next door is the small and beautiful village of Lantzounato with its traditional caf\u00e9 next to the spring and the stone-built church.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Immersed in the nostalgic lushness of the mountain charm of the stone-built villages that coexist over time with nature like a magnet holding you in its arms.
