The unquestionable trend of the last few years regarding the development and spread of marine tourism worldwide, automatically ranks us among the big and strong players of this market, without however doing anything special, as our country sells, our islands sell, we have the momentum.<\/p>\n
Significant steps have been taken by the Ministries of Tourism and Shipping in recent years to develop this form and we must stress this as it is not self-evident, but is it enough?<\/p>\n
Marine tourism is the present and the future of our destinations, which are reaching their limits, both in terms of infrastructure and carrying capacity.<\/p>\n

But this is where big questions come to plague and trouble us:<\/p>\n
How ready are destinations to develop marine tourism? How ready are port funds, marinas, industry professionals? Is there knowledge among those who occupy the scepters of tourism in the regions, municipalities of the country? Are they ready to listen to experts who will guide them and strategise for the future? Are they ready to ask for a study? Implement it over time? Are we as a society ready to support this? Is there any education and encouragement for young people in their involvement with the sea?<\/p>\n
The question to all of the above is answered with a resounding NO (with few exceptions).<\/p>\n
Opportunities come and go and may not present themselves again so soon. Do we choose to be among those who will be constantly chasing developments? or those who will (co-)shape them?<\/p>\n
Because so far… the years go by and the steps we take, we only take them when we are faced with the threat of the evolution of others or the loss of our acquisitions!<\/p>\n
So is it time to make the years go by by producing work that will put us one step ahead of everyone else? So let’s act, if not us then who, if not now then when?<\/p>\n
