As the first EU Commissioner responsible for tourism, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the ITB, and especially the Greek stand!<\/p>\n

Europe is a clear leader in tourism, attracting over half of the planet\u2019s international visitors. This is no surprise: from ancient ruins to snowy mountain peaks, and from idyllic beaches to prestigious museum collections, Destination Europe is unrivalled.<\/p>\n

Within Europe, Greece shines bright. It is among the world\u2019s top-10 destinations. For European holidaymakers, it is a top-5 destination, with the potential to lead on sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

The tourism sector is resilient; 2024 visitor numbers surpassed those of pre-pandemic 2019. But resilience could be stronger still. This, alongside more sustainability, will see Europe\u2019s tourism sector continue to prosper.<\/p>\n

The European Strategy for Sustainable Tourism will balance economic growth with local well-being, reducing the environmental impact of tourism, preserving cultural heritage, encouraging responsible tourist behaviour, leveraging the EU’s regulatory and financial power to benefit the EU brand, and benefiting both SMEs and destinations themselves.<\/p>\n

Before putting pen to paper, we want to hear from those on the ground. That means you! Please do take part in our consultation.<\/p>\n

Als erster EU-Kommissar, der f\u00fcr Tourismus zust\u00e4ndig ist, ist es mir eine Freude, Sie auf der ITB und insbesondere am griechischen Stand willkommen zu hei\u00dfen!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Europa ist eindeutig f\u00fchrend im Tourismus und zieht mehr als die H\u00e4lfte der internationalen Besucher auf der Welt an. Das ist keine \u00dcberraschung: Von antiken Ruinen bis zu schneebedeckten Berggipfeln, von idyllischen Str\u00e4nden bis zu prestigetr\u00e4chtigen Museumssammlungen – das Reiseziel Europa ist un\u00fcbertroffen.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Innerhalb Europas erstrahlt Griechenland in hellem Glanz. Es geh\u00f6rt zu den 10 besten Reisezielen der Welt. F\u00fcr europ\u00e4ische Urlauber ist es ein Top-5-Reiseziel, das das Potenzial hat, beim nachhaltigen Tourismus im Mittelmeerraum f\u00fchrend zu sein.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Der Tourismussektor ist widerstandsf\u00e4hig; die Besucherzahlen \u00fcbertrafen 2024 die Zahlen von vor der Pandemie 2019. Aber die Widerstandsf\u00e4higkeit k\u00f6nnte noch st\u00e4rker sein. Zusammen mit mehr Nachhaltigkeit wird dies dem europ\u00e4ischen Tourismussektor weiteren Aufschwung bescheren.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Die europ\u00e4ische Strategie f\u00fcr nachhaltigen Tourismus wird ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Wirtschaftswachstum und lokalem Wohlergehen herstellen, die Umweltauswirkungen des Tourismus verringern, das kulturelle Erbe bewahren, verantwortungsbewusstes Verhalten der Touristen f\u00f6rdern, die Regulierungs- und Finanzkraft der EU zugunsten der Marke EU nutzen und sowohl den KMU als auch den Reisezielen selbst zugutekommen.<\/p>\n
