Medical tourism in Greece has begun to perform well,\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0steady progress over the past few years, while still presenting significant potential for further development. There are substantial opportunities to strengthen Greece\u2019s international presence through improved organisation, strategic promotion, and targeted partnerships with key foreign markets.<\/span>
\nWe are performing exceptionally well in the field of assisted reproduction; Greece ranks among the world\u2019s leading countries, with high success rates, highly specialised medical personnel, and modern infrastructure that meets international standards. At the same time, we are seeing strong upward momentum in plastic surgery, attracting an increasing number of patients who combine medical procedures with stays in an appealing tourist destination.<\/span>
\nHowever, we have not yet reached the level we aspire to, and targeted initiatives are\u00a0required\u00a0in order to\u00a0fully unlock this potential.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Greece\u2019s tourism product has been significantly upgraded in recent years in relation to medical tourism, as the country has made substantial investments both in infrastructure and human capital.<\/span>
\nParticularly in assisted reproduction, as well as in rehabilitation and recovery services, Greece now hosts outstanding,\u00a0state-of-the-art\u00a0facilities that are on par with\u2014and in some cases more competitive than\u2014corresponding centres in Northern Europe and North America.\u00a0These units are staffed by specialised scientific personnel, equipped with advanced medical technology, and offer integrated care programmes addressing both the medical and psychological dimensions of treatment.<\/span>
\nAt the same time, the ability to combine high-quality medical services with Greece\u2019s mild climate, natural surroundings, and renowned hospitality further strengthens the country\u2019s competitiveness on the global medical tourism landscape.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministries of Health and Tourism are working closely together, in a systematic and organised manner, to develop a comprehensive and internationally recognised certification framework for medical tourism.<\/span>
\nOur\u00a0objective\u00a0is to\u00a0establish\u00a0very strict\u00a0and transparent criteria addressing the quality of medical services, infrastructure, safety, incident management, and overall patient experience. Through this process, we aim to ensure that every potential patient and traveller choosing Greece feels confidence and security, knowing that the healthcare services provided meet high international standards.<\/span>
\nAt the same time, this certification will function as a powerful promotional tool abroad, strengthening Greece\u2019s reputation as a reliable and high-quality medical tourism destination.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt combines high-level medical services, modern private healthcare facilities, and competitive costs with a strong tourism brand that is already internationally recognised. With proper strategic planning, targeted investments, and focused promotion, Greece has the potential to\u00a0attract a\u00a0significant number\u00a0of patients from Europe, the Middle East, and other international markets.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
