It is a great pleasure to welcome the 2026 edition of grtraveller@WTM and to highlight an issue that is becoming increasingly important for modern tourism: health and safety infrastructure as a core pillar of smart destinations.<\/p>\n

A destination is not truly smart simply because it is digitally connected. It must also be resilient, well-prepared and able to provide reliable access to healthcare for both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n

For Greece, this is particularly important. Our geography, our many islands and the significant seasonal increase in population across major tourism destinations create specific and often demanding healthcare needs.<\/p>\n

Over the past few years, we have been systematically strengthening the National Health System across the country, investing in both infrastructure and the healthcare workforce. Hospitals, Health Centers and Emergency Departments are being renovated and modernized, frontline services are being reinforced, emergency medical care is being upgraded and digital health services are making access to care faster and more efficient.<\/p>\n

We are already seeing tangible results. Healthcare services in island regions have been strengthened, aeromedical transfers have more than doubled compared with 2021, and in major tourism areas we have strengthened healthcare provision and emergency medical services.<\/p>\n

These are not separate initiatives. They are part of a broader effort to ensure reliable, high-quality healthcare wherever and whenever it is needed.<\/p>\n

Strong health infrastructure protects local communities, enhances the resilience of our destinations and contributes directly to the quality and international competitiveness of Greek tourism.<\/p>\n

Our goal is simple: wherever you live in Greece, and wherever you travel across the country, you should be able to rely on the health system when you need it.<\/p>\n

Because a truly smart destination must not only be digitally connected but also be safe, sustainable, resilient and well prepared to care for people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
