These are events that promote internationally the region’s diverse tourist product and at the same time highlight the numerous options for special forms of tourism that the region offers to its visitors. Next Sunday 29 September the 2nd Pilgrimage Cycling Tourwill take place
on a 15 km route, starting from the church of Saints Peter and Paul Apostles of Aeginio, with stops at churches of the Municipality of Pydna-Kolindros and finishing at the church of St. George Makrigialos. The action is organized by the Holy Metropolis of Kitros, Katerini and Platamonos, the Regional Unit of Pieria, the Municipality of Pydna-Kolindros, the Pierian Organization for Tourism Development and Promotion (POTAP) and the Triathlon Sports – Cultural Association “TRIAS”, in order to promote and familiarize the worship and pilgrimage sites of the wider region, through sports and cycling. At the finish line, the ceremony of awarding Pieria with the European label “Bike friendly destination”, which certifies that a destination fulfils a series of criteria for the development of cycling tourism, will take place.
The 4th Mountain and Forest Gastronomic Festivalwill take place in Elatochori, in the Pieria Mountains, during the weekend of 18-20 October,
organized by the Municipality of Katerini. During the festival, local products will be presented through cooking demonstrations, which will be coordinated by renowned chefs. The program includes a master chef kids with special educators and cooks, experience actions in nature (walking routes accompanied by mountain guides, yoga in the forest by specialized teachers, organized barbeque in the forest accompanied by traditional sounds), a great concert at the exhibition area, etc. Also on October 18, a closed event dedicated to local wines will take place, with the participation of wine lovers, chefs, journalists, travel bloggers, influencers, etc., where the new logo (umbrella brand) of the wineries of the region will be presented.

In addition, until September 30, the actions of the 15th international youth meeting of ancient drama, music and sports “Olympia in Dio”continue.

During the events, which started on 16 September, more than 1,000 students from Greece and abroad (Australia, Iran, Spain, Persia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Slovenia, Philippines, Oman, Turkey, Mozambique, Cyprus, etc.In addition, 500 athletes from 35 countries participate in the World Championship of Ancient Greek Wrestling, co-organized with the World Wrestling Federation. The highlight of the “Olympians in Dion” was the “Alexander the Great’s Banquet of Philip”, a re-enactment of the dinner given by Alexander the Great at Dion in 334 BC to the consuls of the Greek cities before he left for his campaign in Asia.
