GRtraveller Magazine, in collaboration with the American College of Greece – Center of Excellence in Food, Tourism & Leisure (CoEFTL), is launching a pioneering international research project on Greek gastronomy, PDO/PGI products, and multisensory culinary experiences.
The study will explore how international travellers perceive Greece’s gastronomic identity and the role of Greek PDO/PGI products (Protected Designation of Origin / Protected Geographical Indication) in shaping Greece’s position as a global culinary destination.
Why This Research Matters
Gastronomy is one of the most powerful ways to experience Greece. From olive oil and honey to wines and cheeses, Greek PDO/PGI products reflect authenticity, heritage, and quality. Through this study, we aim to understand:
-
How travellers perceive the value of PDO/PGI products.
-
The role of food and drink in destination choice.
-
How multisensory experiences (sight, sound, touch, smell, taste) enhance culinary tourism.
-
Which Greek products have the strongest potential to become global ambassadors of Greek gastronomy.
The insights will be presented in the Exhibition Edition of GRtraveller @ WTM London 2025, which will be distributed internationally to tourism leaders, buyers, and decision-makers at the World Travel Market in London this November.
