Snoring is annoying but at least it’s innocent. However, there is often a much more serious condition, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, which must be diagnosed and treated in time, otherwise it can lead, among other things, to hypertension, heart attack, arrhythmias, stroke and even death. Snoring and sleep apnoea are often also caused by factors such as a crooked septum (“bony”) and large nasal orifices, long nostrils (“staph”), large tonsils and
mice (the latter two are the most common causes in children). That is why every patient, child or adult, who wants to deal with snoring and apneas must visit the Specialist Otolaryngologist, who will use special endoscopes to identify the cause of the problem and recommend the appropriate treatment. This is often surgical, where the ENT specialist removes the tonsils and/or the tonsils (in children and adults), corrects the crooked septum and shrinks the sockets and/or the stapes.
