“Beyond Borders” travels to Athens 27-29 January 2023

“Where Documentary meets History and Culture”

Carrying in the luggage the 7th edition, “Beyond Borders” will be introduced to the Athens audience with 26 national and world/international premieres, 10 awards, three juries and three screening stages, aiming to promote the art of cinema and a culture beyond borders, from 27 to 29 January 2023 at the Athens War Museum. The three days of screenings and activities of “Beyond Borders” will include:

Friday, January 27th:

  • 19:00, the 12-member music ensemble of ERT’s Contemporary Music Orchestra will perform live the original music of composer Giorgos Papachristoudis, for the latest production of IDISME “The Heroic Voulas of Asia Minor”.
  • 19:30, the Secretary General of Hellenism Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yannis Chrysoulakis, will present the Special Award “Odysseus” to the director Vicky Markolefa for her film, “Spirit Native”
  • 19:45, “The Heroic Voulas of Asia Minor” by Irini Sarioglou (2022, 52′)
  • 20:30, “Railway Memories” (Bronze Phoenix micro) by Emilia Bouriti (2021, 8′)
  • 20:45, “Letters Without a Recipient” (produced by IDISME) by Ilias Demetriou ( 2012, 40′)

 

Saturday, January 28:

  • “The Other Half” by Giorgos Moutafis (Best Greek Documentary Award)
  • “February1st” by Mo Mo & Leila Macaire ( national premiere, Golden Phoenix micro)
  • “I was there and they kissed me with a plate of lentils…” by Freddy Vianellis (Mediterranean Friendship Award)
  • “iRony” by Radheya Jegatheva (Silver Palm micro)
  • “Reconstruction of the Occupation” by Jan Sikl (national premiere, Best Historical Documentary Award).

 

Sunday, 29 January:

  • “The Poet’s Wife” by Helke Misselwitz (Best Socio-Political Documentary Award)
  • “Spirit Native” by Vicky Markolefa (Special “Odysseus” Award)
  • “Village of Women” by Tamara Stepanyan (national premiere, FIPRECI Award)
  • “May1st” by Luis Cuenca Castro (world premiere, Best Short Documentary Award) .

The screenings will take place at the amphitheatre “Ioannis Kapodistrias” of the War Museum of Athens (2 Vas. Sofias & Rizari 2, Athens) on Friday 27 January from 19:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 18:00.
