Cactus Mare – Preparedness exercise for the management of a possible Covid outbreak; 19

 

On Thursday 27 August 2020 at 19:00 p.m. in the presence of the Governor of the 7th Health Region of Crete, Ms Lena Borboudaki, the Professor of Internal Pathology and Infectious Diseases of the University of Crete and Coordinator of the committees, Mr. Gikas Achilleas and the Coordinator of the operation of the Nurses’ Hospital Infection Committees, Ms. Nikos Chalkiadakis, President of the Heraklion Hotel Association, simulation and preparedness exercise for the management of a suspected case of Covid-19.

 

 

 

 

 

The purpose of the exercise was to assess the effectiveness of the procedures and alertness of the action team by health scientists.of the response team to respond and follow closely the plan that has been drawn up to deal with an emergency.

The scenario of the exercise involved a guest with suspicious symptoms who is on holiday at the hotel. After a telephone call from the visitor to the reception, he reports the symptoms and follows the whole plan of action for which the staff of Cactus Mare has been trained in the presence of a cooperating doctor to take a smear in order to perform a molecular test.

All the procedures are then followed, as laid down in the health protocols. Procedures such as the service of feeding the client in his room as well as the cleaning of his room with all provided Personal Protective Equipment according to the instructions of the EODY.

As the guest’s condition is not considered by the doctor to be aggravated, he remains in his room until the test results are communicated.

After the results are announced, the patient is confirmed as a Covid – 19 patient and the process of transferring the patient to a hotel for patients diagnosed with Covid – 19 is followed.
