The Cultural Association of Elaia Lesvos Island was founded in 2020 with the vision of promoting the unique cultural heritage of the olive tree, which encompasses all the history, culture and natural beauty of Greece, included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the country since 2019 and in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO since 2013 through the Mediterranean diet based on olive oil. This year it organizes the 2nd International Olive OilConference – Festival “Olive Oil & Health” at the Vrana Museum in Gera (Mytilene), with the support of the leading Yale University and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the participation of important scientists and businessmen, including in its themes important sections, including science, technology, the environment, communication, but also the decisive role of culture, gastronomy and olive oil tourism.
In this context, we are pleased to announce that on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 18.30 at the War Museum Amphitheatre, the Pre-Conference event of the Elia Lesvos Confest 2024 will take place, on the theme “The Culture of the OliveTree”. Admission to the event is free.

Mr. Nikos Thomaidis | Professor of Analytical Chemistry, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University of Athens: “The course of Lesbian olive oil through time: from tradition and industrial heritage to the documentation of science”
Ms Louisa Karapidaki | Head of the Museum Collection of the Folklore Centre of the Academy of Athens: Presentation of the book “The Olive Tree in Lesvos”.
Dr. Sophia Baroutsaki-Tsiriogoti | Honorary Consul of France for Lesvos & Lemnos: “Historical route of socio-economic ties between Lesvos and France”
During the event, 3 four-minute videos by Mr. Dimitris Talianis, photographer and publisher, will be screened on the following topics: “The Olive Tree in Lesvos”, “Snowmaking”, “Olive groves”.
The event is coordinated by journalist Ms Nana Dareiotis and is under the auspices of the French Embassy and the French Institute.

The 2nd International Olive Oil Conference – Festival “Olive Oil & Olive Tree Health” is an innovative event where scientists and professionals from the entire olive value chain will share their knowledge and expertise on the contribution of extra virgin olive oil to health and well-being. The aim of Elia Lesvos Confest 2024 is to place Lesvos firmly on the world map of olive oil conferences.
