American Airlines is continuing its European growth, adding another route to its Greek network with the introduction of a seasonal service between Athens (ATH) and Charlotte (CLT).

Operating on a Boeing 777-200, the addition of CLT to the Greek network brings the total number of flights for ATH to four daily flights the highest it has ever been. American also flies between ATH and Chicago (ORD), Philadelphia (PHL) and New York (JFK).

“Throughout the summer, U.S. travellers are increasingly looking to European destinations that offer cultural, culinary or adventure-based experiences. Athens continues to be a key destination within our network and we’re excited to add Charlotte to the growing list of cities that connect with our Greek operation,” said José A. Freig, Vice President of International and Inflight Dining Operations at American Airlines. “With this route, our customers in Greece will also have access to more than 145 destinations in the U.S and beyond through Charlotte.”

“The launch of the daily nonstop connection between Athens and Charlotte, an exciting destination of the Southeast region of the United States of America, is a fantastic development!” said Ioanna Papadopoulou, Athens International Airport’s Director, Communications & Marketing. “Along with the very successful summer offering of Chicago, New York/JFK and Philadelphia, the new route enhances significantly our connectivity and provides even more options for overseas passengers with the American Airlines’ top product. In Athens, the U.S. market demonstrates an impressive growth and is consistently ranking at the top position among our most important and popular markets. We would like to extend our best wishes to our airline partner for a highly successful season ahead and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to remain fully committed in supporting the airline’s growth plans to and from Athens.”

As the airline continues to grow its international service throughout summer, American is adding new routes in Europe, including additional service from Madrid (MAD); Milan (MXP); Rome (FCO) and Venice, Italy (VCE). Launched in 2024, American will also bring back flights to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH); Naples, Italy (NAP); and Nice, France (NCE) for the 2025 summer travel season, with NAP also now connecting to Chicago (ORD).
