Thanos Micheloggonas: With vision and steady steps, the Peloponnese charts its own path on the global tourism map through the Peloponnese Trails

Peloponnese Trails: The Region of Peloponnese carves its own path on the global tourism map

With a spirit of openness and a vision of sustainable growth, the Region of Peloponnese made a strong impression at this year’s World Travel Market London 2025.
At the heart of its presentation was the Peloponnese Trails project — an integrated network of more than 2,000 kilometres of hiking routes, designed to connect mountains, coastlines, villages and authentic experiences into a vibrant mosaic of Greek nature and culture.

“The Peloponnese is not just a place — it’s an experience you can walk through.
Every path tells a story, every step brings you closer to the Greece you once loved — and the one you’re ready to rediscover.”

Thanos Micheloggonas, Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism, Peloponnese

A new strategy for thematic tourism

The Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism of the Peloponnese, Thanos Micheloggonas, presented the initiative as the foundation of a new strategy — one that blends authenticity with global competitiveness:

“The Peloponnese is not just a place. It’s an experience you can walk through.
Every path tells a story, every step is a chance to rediscover Greece as it once was — and as it can become again.”

The Peloponnese Trails embrace the philosophy of slow journeys: travels where time takes on a human rhythm.
The routes weave together natural landscapes, archaeological sites, local communities, traditional taverns and small artisan workshops. Through digital mapping and the participation of social enterprises, the network takes on a sustainable and community-driven character.

International partnership with the ATTA

During WTM London 2025, the Region announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) — a strategic collaboration that opens new paths for networking, training and global visibility in adventure and nature-based tourism.

A region that stands out

The presentation in London coincided with an important recognition: the Region of Peloponnese was named Best Greek Hospitality Region 2025 at the Greek Hospitality Awards, affirming its steady progress toward a higher-quality, more experience-driven tourism model.

Thanos Micheloggonas emphasizes that this success belongs “to the people of the Peloponnese, who welcome every visitor not as a client, but as a friend.”

The future of the trails

Through this strategy, the Peloponnese reintroduces itself as a four-season destination
a land that doesn’t merely ask to be seen, but to be crossed, heard and tasted.
Among its trails, the traveller discovers that the road to authentic tourism always leads through the heart of Greece.
