More than 567 documentaries by Greek and foreign filmmakers – a record number after the recent pandemic – have been submitted for judging at the 6th International Documentary Festival Beyond Borders, which will take place in Kastellorizo from 22 to 29 August.
The 567 documentary films will be put to the judgement of the Selection Committee, to decide which of them will participate in the Competition Programme of the Festival and which in the Panorama. The results will be announced at the beginning of June.
This year The Qualifying Committee is composed of Markus Nikel – Consultant of RAI, the Alexia Papakosta – Executive at the National Centre for Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME), the Jean Louis Gonterre – Director, the Natasha Bozini – Screenwriter, Journalist, the Alexandros Papailiou – Director, the Katerina Tzigotzidou – Cameraman, Photographer, the Guelfo Ascanelli – Film Curator – Italy/France, Tasos Yapoutzis – Director, Ruggero Calich – Consultant, Documentary Critic, Nikos Zappas – Director and Giorgos Mantas – Director.
This year’s Jury consists of Klaus Eder – Secretary General of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), Marianna Economou – President of the Greek Documentary Association, Jean-Christoph Caron – Director of PHOENIX, Bruno Chatelin – Festival Coordinator and MaroAnastopoulou – Director.
In the context of the competitive part, the The Festival Jury will award the prizes: Best Historical Documentary, Best Social-Political Documentary and Best Short Documentary – all courtesy of Hellenic Parliament – the award Best Greek Documentary sponsored by Greek Film Centre (HCC), the Greek Film Centre (HCC), the Special Award for Mediterranean Friendship, sponsored by National Centre for Audiovisual Media (EKOME) and the Ulysses Special Award, sponsored by General Secretariat for Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Beyond the Borders
takes place every year in the last week of August on the edge of the Aegean Sea, on the idyllic island of Kastellorizo, an island of unparalleled natural beauty and immense historical heritage.
The aim of this special Documentary Festival is to honour remarkable examples of cinematic art and storytelling, which deal with events, issues and people that have influenced the countries, peoples and cultures of the world and to offer to the Greek, European and international audience a selection of documentary films (documentaries) with thematic axes on History and Society.
The Festival is organized by the The Hellenic Foundation for Historical Studies (H.I.S.ME.), in collaboration with the Ecrans des Mondes (Paris). The 6ο International Documentary Festival Beyond Borders is under the auspices of S.A. of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and has the support of the Hellenic Parliament, the General Secretariat for Hellenism Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,the Municipality of Megisti, the Embassies of the Australia and USA as well as the General Secretariat for Insular Policy, the Ministry of Culture, the EKOME and the ERT.
