The special impression and immersion in the transcendental atmosphere of the Holy Week of Easter is sure to be felt if you live these holy days in Metsovo, the archontochoria of Epirus. Metsovo offers everything to the visitor and even to those who will want to live and pray there during these holy days of Christianity.

MONASTERIES AND CHURCHES
Access: The road – the Egnatia road – starts from Igoumenitsa in the prefecture of Thesprotia, passes through the top of the village to continue to Thessaloniki and from there to the main roads of the Evros prefecture. Metsovo is beautiful from the first sight. Reddish-red accents amidst the deep green of the lush mountains that embrace it.

The main monasteries and churches where daily services are held for the greatest feast of Christianity:

The church of Agia Paraskevi is located in the centre of the settlement and is probably the most remarkable church of Metsovo. The carvings of the iconostasis represent various episodes from the Old and New Testament. The twenty-two icons in the upper zone of the iconostasis are of the school of Northwestern Greece. The ten magnificent icons of the lower section are Russian and are dated between 1820-1840.

Right on the river is the Holy Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1754 and includes two-storey cells, guesthouses, paved courtyards and a temple. Every time the monastery is open, Metsovites and Metsovites and other visitors flock there. They love and take care of the monastery and the nun as something precious. They touch there and taste, along with the coffee, the loukoumi and the cold water offered by the old woman, the peaceful serenity of the place, the silence that lets the chanting of the river be heard, the peace of the soul and spirit. Every day he has vespers. And of course Easter has its daily solemn services.
