Announcement by the Ministry of Tourism regarding Dior’s request for events in Greece

The Ministry of Tourism announces that it has received a request from the international house “Dior” for the organization of events, which, according to the file submitted, are dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the struggle for the independence of Greece and the creation of the Greek state, as an event of fundamental importance for Europe and the relations between Greece and France.

The general title of the envelope submitted is “Dior celebrates Greece”. After a detailed examination of what the international house of haute couture proposes, it was decided that events of this level, with the scope and visibility they will have in very important tourist markets for Greece, such as those of Europe, the USA and Asia, will have a very positive impact.

The proposal of the international House provides for the presentation of the special collection “Resort 2022” which will be dedicated to the 200 years since the Revolution of 1821, with creations that will be prepared in Greece with Greek fabrics and raw materials, by Greek craftsmen and creators, aiming to promote the Greek tradition and at the same time the talent and know-how of Greeks in this field.

According to the file submitted, the main event for the presentation of the special collection is proposed to take place at the Kallimarmaro Stadium on 17 June, with live international television broadcast. For this reason, a request was submitted by our Ministry to the competent services of the Ministry of Culture, which will be examined by the Central Council of Modern Monuments.

As stated in the envelope of the presentation of the House of Dior, the concepts “Phos” (light) and “Kallos” (beauty) that began to shine 2,500 years ago in Athens are perfectly identified with the aesthetic values and quality that the House stands for and in this context the request for the presentation of the new special collection in our country was designed.

Focusing on the main event at the Kallimarmaro Stadium, the House has also requested permission to photograph some of the creations that have as their theme Greek heritage and culture at emblematic sites, including the Acropolis, the Herodeion, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion and the Temple of Zeus at Nemea, always respecting the historicity of the monuments. The relevant request was also submitted to the Ministry of Culture and examined by the Central Archaeological Council in accordance with the provisions of Law 3028/2002 “On the Protection of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage in General”.

This event, given that it will be presented internationally by major media, will contribute to the promotion of Greece abroad and the enhancement of tourism.
