As the Region of Crete, we are currently designing and implementing policies and actions for the present, and especially for the future of tourism, based on the rule of moderation and balance, care for the protection of the natural and cultural environment and respect for people and local communities. In this context, it is our strategic choice to involve local communities in the management of tourism activity to ensure that the benefits of tourism are shared fairly and in return. We must understand that tourism is not just a production process, but the subject of a complex and integrated political process, tourism policy. In this context, the Region of Crete is ready to develop new initiatives, so that together we can continue to move forward even more decisively towards a sustainable development model of tourism governance.
Therefore, in cooperation with the Municipalities and all productive stakeholders, we are addressing the development challenges of the island as a whole, whether they concern water management, or transport infrastructure and of course the energy security of the island.

Als Region Kreta sind wir derzeit dabei, Politiken und Maßnahmen für die Gegenwart und vor allem für die Zukunft des Tourismus zu entwerfen und umzusetzen, die auf der Regel der Mäßigung und des
Gleichgewichts, der Sorge um den Schutz der natürlichen und kulturellen Umwelt und dem Respekt für die Menschen und die lokalen Gemeinschaften basieren. In diesem Zusammenhang ist es unsere strategische Entscheidung, die lokalen Gemeinschaften in das Management der touristischen Aktivitäten einzubeziehen, um sicherzustellen, dass die Vorteile des Tourismus gerecht und im Gegenzug verteilt werden. Wir müssen verstehen, dass der Tourismus nicht nur ein Produktionsprozess ist, sondern Gegenstand eines komplexen und integrierten politischen Prozesses, der Tourismuspolitik. In diesem Zusammenhang ist die Region Kreta bereit, neue Initiativen zu entwickeln, damit wir gemeinsam noch entschlossener auf dem Weg zu einem nachhaltigen Entwicklungsmodell der Tourismusverwaltung voranschreiten können.
Deshalb stellen wir uns in Zusammenarbeit mit den Gemeinden und allen produktiven Akteuren den Entwicklungsherausforderungen der Insel als Ganzes, sei es im Bereich der Wasserwirtschaft, der Verkehrsinfrastruktur und natürlich der Energiesicherheit der Insel.
