SYMPLEUSI AMKE – Sailing 2023: sending an offer to the Greek islands

 

SYMPLEUSI AMKE (+flotation) announces the 9th Crossing of eight small and isolated islands of the country, from Thursday 27 April to Sunday 7 May 2023, in order to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of the Greek islands.

More than 80 volunteers, the majority of whom are health professionals, will visit, with dedication and willingness to offer, the following islands with 12 inflatable boats: Sikinos, Donousa, Arkioi, Lipsi, Agathonisi, Thymena, Fourni and Ikaria.

The start and finish of the crossing will be the Olympic Marine facilities in Lavrio, on a total route of approximately 375 nautical miles, with the significant assistance of EKO (a company of the HELLENIQ ENERGY Group).

The primary objective of the mission, which has been licensed by the 2nd Department of Public Health, is to offer free specialized medical examinations and related health services in more than 20 specialties and fields, such as the following:

  • Radiology – ultrasound
  • Anaesthesiology
  • General Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • Gynaecology (Pap test)
  • Dermatology – Aesthetics
  • Nutrition
  • Cardiology (TRIPLEX, Cardiogram)
  • Mastology
  • Neurology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Dentistry – Dentistry – Orthodontics
  • Orthopedics (bone density measurement) – Physiotherapy
  • Ophthalmology – Paediatric ophthalmology
  • Pathology
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry – Psychology
  • ENT – Audiology

The bone density measurement is carried out in collaboration with the National Intermunicipal Network of Healthy Cities – Health Promotion (EDYPPY), while we cooperate with the Vision of Hope Association for the creation and strengthening of the volunteer bone marrow donor bank.

Also, the Voluntary Action of Veterinarians of Greece (V.A.V.D.C.E.) is participating in our mission, in order for its volunteers to offer veterinary assistance, care and sterilization to stray and domestic animals of the islands. The aim of the partnership is to provide holistic health care to the Greek outlying islands.

With the support of IASO General Clinic and Biotrans, the safe collection of blood samples from the locusts and their transportation to be analyzed in certified laboratories is made possible. At the same time, hearing tests and hearing aids will be offered with the support of the company Stamos Hearing Aids, while the ophthalmological examination and offer of eyeglasses will be supported by the company Vairamoglou S.A.

The +Float utilizes all the sponsorships it attracts for public benefit projects and the improvement of health services in the islands, with its volunteers covering all the expenses related to themselves and the operation of the team. In this context, the following infrastructure projects will be inaugurated, which are being implemented thanks to the contribution of sponsors, aiming to upgrade the living standards of residents and serve residents and visitors:

  • Coating of the courtyard and construction of a polygon at the Primary School of Fournoi(Stoiximan-Small Heroes )
  • Installation of photovoltaic lights in the settlement of Donousa(PYLETECH GROUP)
  • Support and equipment of public utilities in Agathonisi(Davos Family Boston)
  • Placement of the roof for the ambulance of Donoussa(ELPEN)
  • Replacement of windows of the rural clinic of Donoussa(YESTAY)
  • Replacement of frames Elementary School Thymena(XCLUSIV SHIPBROKERS)
  • Replacement of lighting spotlights at the football stadium of Lipsi with LED spotlights(KAYKAS)
  • Donation of a portable blood sample analyser(Biotrans)
  • Provision of medical equipment to peripheral medical practices

 

In addition, the Assembly has donated educational and technological equipment and consumables in order to strengthen the educational infrastructure. 32 schools and improve the learning conditions for 445 children on 8 islands. This year, the following organizations have helped in this effort ALPHA BANK, Context, Avguleas Linardatou Educational Institutions, Coca-Cola HBC, LIFELINE HELLAS, Pharmacy295, IKEA, Just Toys, Enarxis Dynamic Media, Library4all, Desyllas Games.

At the same time, we have designed information, cultural and entertainment activities for children and adults, in a wide range of interests and subjects. Specifically, there will be speeches on demography and support for low birth rate from the HOPE GENESIS, on cancer prevention and diagnosis and the optimistic messages of technology, on nutrition for pregnant women, babies and young children, and on loneliness and how to deal with it in old age. The Prolepsis Institute is travelling with us to inform about the “Friendship at any age” programme to combat loneliness among the elderly. Also, the Sexual Education workshops for adolescents and adults will continue, under the auspices of Hellenic Society of Adolescent Medicine and robotics workshops in collaboration with the M.I.T. Kids which will be implemented online during the year, and an interactive storybook on safe touch “To give you a hug” will take place with the support of DIOPTRA, as well as courses in contemporary dance and improvisation. Finally, an environmental awareness programme and beach clean-ups will be carried out with We4all‘s expertise.

The help and cooperation of Hellagrolip, PLORApp, Seabright, Nova, Boat & Fishing was important for the realization of the Crossing 2023.
