The E.O.T. reopens the Japanese market

Presentation of Greece in the Year of Culture – Tourism 2024

With a full agenda for the presentation of Greece as a tourist destination, the Secretary General of the E.O.T.
Andreas Fiorentinos is already in Tokyo, Japan, in the context of the celebration of the Year of Culture – Tourism 2024 Greece – Japan and the participation of the HTO in Tourism Expo Japan 2024.

Η Tourism Expo Japan 2024 is a major event of the Japan Travel and Tourism Association
(Japan Tourism Agency), the Japan Tourism Agency Association
(JATA) and the Japan National Tourism Organisation ( JNTO), involving some 1,300 tourism businesses from 70 countries and destinations around the world.

The E.O.T. participates in the exhibition with a pavilion and co-exhibitors, Greek travel agencies operating in the market and the Association of Greek Tourist and Travel Agencies (HATTA) with whom Mr.
Fiorentinos had held meetings in advance for better coordination and optimal presentation of the country to Japanese tour operators.    During the exhibition, the Secretary General of the HTO will present to the Japan Association of Tour Operators (JATA), the Japan Tourism Agency and Japanese tour operators the Agency’s Action Plan to strengthen the country’s share in Japan, with a specific communication strategy that highlights the country’s comparative advantages, but at the same time addresses the particular interests of the Japanese visitor.   Specific objectives for the NTO are:

  • the presentation to tourism professionals of new Greek destinations (Crete, Dodecanese, Peloponnese, Macedonia),
  • the overall enhancement of the country’s visibility as a tourist destination that shares common values with the Japanese, such as culture, hospitality and respect for the environment, and
  • the opportunities to launch a direct flight between the two countries.

The E.O.T. is also planning a network of actions to boost the tourist flow, including the promotion of emblematic events in Greece such as the Classic Marathon and partnerships with Japanese tour operators with whom Mr.
Fiorentinos will have individual meetings in order to attract visitors from Japan outside the peak tourist season, especially during the Japanese Golden Week, the popular holiday season every autumn.
