THESSALONIKI: Christmas market

If you dream of finding yourself in a fairytale Christmas market in Europe, such as Vienna, Strasbourg or Nuremberg, you don’t have to go far this year. A market modeled after the cities of Europe is set up at the Court Square in Thessaloniki. Bright arches and pentagonal spheres from Nikis Avenue to Egnatia lead your steps behind the statue of Venizelos, where 39 wooden houses with all kinds of goodies await visitors to do their holiday shopping. Christmas decorations and other items, delicious and mouth-watering sweets and much more will be available for you to buy.

Just above the Christmas market, between Chalkeon and Mitr. Gennadios, the village of Santa Claus unfolds with six specially designed, in various sizes, houses for Christmas children’s activities. Let your children write a letter to Santa Claus or knead fluffy cookies. Concerts are scheduled to take place there and there will be an ice rink, a carousel, a roller coaster and for teenage visitors a specially designed VR Room. A little further on, Aristotelous Square with the manger and the classic Christmas tree. Illuminated cubes, “mirror” trees and Christmas trees with lights. On the right and left, compositions of cubes and three-dimensional trees made of mirror plexi glass. Around the whole setting, natural Christmas trees with fairy lights have been placed. This year Thessaloniki promises an enchanted Christmas and New Year’s Eve, with glittering decorations and unprecedented activities for the city, inviting you to walk around, taste its traditional Christmas flavours and welcome the New Year.
