Athens International Airport joins Pharma.Aero

Pharma.Aero, the global collaborative platform for excellence in the management and distribution of pharmaceutical and other healthcare products, announces the addition of Athens International Airport (AIA) as its newest member. AIA is the largest international airport in Greece and the largest and busiest airport in the Balkan region.

Trevor Caswell, President of Pharma.Aero, warmly welcomes Athens International Airport, stating: “By adding Athens International Airport to our partner network, Pharma.Aero not only recognises the importance of the airport in the region, but also strengthens our presence in the Mediterranean region. We are excited to have the opportunity to collaborate and leverage our expertise to drive innovative projects that will deliver substantial value to our industry and improve access to healthcare for people worldwide.”

Athens International Airport was recognized as an IATA CEIV Pharma certified airport in 2023. Since 2016, AIA has been the first airport in Greece with a carbon-neutral footprint and, since 2019, through the Route 2025 initiative, announced its official commitment to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2025, 25 years ahead of the 2050 target set by ACI Europe. It is also the first European airport to standardise multi-modal freight flows, combining sea, road and air transport. The Cargo Development Department at Athens International Airport oversees all cargo and mail management activities, acting as a coordinator and facilitator of the airport’s cargo community and leading new developments.

Lina Pallis, Customer Accounts Manager at the Ground Services Development Department & Cargo Services at AIA, and IATA CEIV Pharma Coordinator for Athens International Airport, said: “At AIA we strongly believe in cooperation and joint actions. By joining Pharma.Aero, we will not only join an international network of experts and gain valuable knowledge that we can transfer to our local partners, but we will also support Pharma.Aero’s important mission to promote a seamless pharmaceutical supply chain.”

Pharma.Aero operates as a collaborative platform that brings together pharmaceutical and other healthcare product development and manufacturing companies as well as freight communities certified to manage and handle medicines including airports, airlines and

other logistics service providers, to promote positive change by addressing current challenges and future trends in the transport of healthcare products.
