An evening of awards and important announcements for Greek tourism
The importance of marketing and communication in the development of the travel industry was highlighted by the Travel Marketing Awards 24, organised for the first time by Boussias Events. In total, 24 companies and individuals from a wide range of business activities were awarded in all categories of the awards.
The Award Ceremony took place on Thursday 20 July and more than 150 high-ranking business executives, representatives of Institutions, Universities, Professionals as well as representatives of the Press, were present, applauding the innovation and quality of the award-winning nominations of the companies-businesses. Companies that have innovative practices in the fields of tourism, advertising, public relations, media, digital media, communication and education.
The event was greeted by the President of the Greek National Tourism Organization and the jury of the awards, Ms Angela Gerekou, the Head of the General Directorate of Tourism Policy of the Ministry of Tourism, Ms Panagiota Dionysopoulou and the Deputy Head of Tourism of the Region of Central Macedonia, Ms Vicky Hadjivassiliou.
Wellness Editor – Author, Co-Founder Wellness Project, BOUSSIAS events, Ms. Anna Maria Papiri, opening the event, stressed the need to understand consumer behaviour and the search for new experiences and products. He pointed out that tourism services must adapt to sustainability requirements and pursue strategies that reduce environmental impacts.
Angela Gerekou: “The Greek National Tourism Organisation is moving towards a total digital transformation“
The president of the Greek National Tourism Organisation and the jury of the awards, Ms Angela Gerekou, in her address spoke, among other things, about the work and objectives of the Greek National Tourism Organisation and the challenges of the new era. Specifically, he referred to the “total rebranding” of the country in tourism, as “Greece has managed to extend the tourist season and from a sea & sun destination, the country is increasingly emerging as an ideal destination 365 days a year”.
Ms.Gerekou stressed that the goal of the political leadership of tourism is now “quality over quantity, sustainable development, accessibility and of course the digitalization of the entire travel ecosystem” and said that the Greek National Tourism Organization is moving towards a total digital transformation, through funds from the Development and Resilience Fund.
The President of the Greek National Tourism Organisation also commented that the communication environment is now multi-layered, highly complex and therefore highly competitive, as artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality have entered well into the communication of the tourism industry.
The Travel Marketing Awards 24 were held under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) and the Association of Greek Tourist and Travel Agencies (HATTA).
