At the edge of the country, so far away that even the map you remember from your school classroom was like a surplus and somehow it had to fit. What is not left over are the thousands of years of history and the footprints of allies, conquerors and cultures whose aura runs through every inch of Kastellorizo. A place with the pride of a giant and colors out of a fairy tale, an island of unspeakable beauty, capable of seducing with its beauty even the most demanding visitor!
Walking through the alleys of the island you feel that you are part of a work of art with the light of the Aegean and the Mediterranean Sea bathing the mansions that if you observe them you will see the Ionic cyanocrystals, the Byzantine technique, the Venetian “touch”. At the top is the medieval castle and across the road the Asia Minor coast.
Kastellorizo owes its glorious and rich past to its port. A geophysical charisma located at the maritime crossroads between Europe, the Middle East and Egypt, it was bound to generate significant commercial and maritime traffic. This led to great commercial development and a famous maritime tradition.
When you walk on a starry night with the moon shimmering in the sea, don’t be surprised if on its “path” you see Dorians and Phoenicians, Egyptians and Crusaders, Turks and Venetians. All of them coveted Kastellorizo and left their mark.
