At the same time, the Nordic Tourism Board of the Nordic Region, was awarded as The best foreign Tourist Office of the year 2023 and is the award it received – also for the second consecutive year – after being honoured at the same event as the Best Foreign Tourist Office for the year 2022!
The two new firsts for Greece and GNTO were announced at the annual Grand Travel Awards (GTA) ceremony, held on 11 January in Oslo, Norway.
The “Grand Travel Awards” (GTA) have been organised for 26 years by the professional travel magazine Reis and its website, Travel News, in Norway and Sweden, making it the most important annual meeting of the industry in all sectors of the local travel industry.
The event was attended and received the awards by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Greek Embassy in Oslo, Konstantinos Danassis and Maria Zeevgoula from the Scandinavian EOT Service.
EOT participation in Reiselivsmessen/ Travelxpo
The preference of the Norwegians for Greece was confirmed immediately after the award at the international tourism exhibition Reiselivsmessen/Travelxpo 2024, which took place from 13 to 14 January at the Telenor Arena in Oslo, Norway.
The E.O.T. participated in the Exhibition with a stand of 18 sq.m. and co-exhibitors the Region of Crete – Regional Unit of Chania and the Region of K. Macedonia. The country’s participation was concluded with the conclusion that Greece is one of the top travel destinations for Norwegians.
Reiselivsmessen/Travelxpo 2024 was attended by 166 Exhibitors from all over the world, including Travel Agencies and representatives of State Tourism Organisations, mainly from countries outside Europe.
The visitors, who according to the organizers amounted to about 10,000 people, showed particular interest in Greece and especially in alternative tourism destinations, which combine the natural environment with access to the sea, while the rich Greek gastronomy is an important incentive for holidays in our country.
Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Norwegians with a high rate of repeat visitors, especially the 50+ age group who travel four times on average, are of high income level and appreciate the country’s cultural richness, the authentic natural environment and the Greek cuisine.
The Greek National Tourism Organization’s pavilion was visited by the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Embassy in Oslo Mr. Konstantinos Danassis, who spoke with the attendees and our co-authors.
Meetings were held at our stand with representatives of major Norwegian tourism magazines such as REIS and Pensjonisten, as well as with a representative of ANTOR Norway.
