The Top-5 Destinations of Spyros Chrysicopoulos
The ultra-distance athlete Spyros Chrysikopoulos, after his entry in the Guinness Book of Records, swimming 358,2 km in a week in the 50m pool of the Olympic Stadium, decided that it’s time for a holiday and suggests us favorite destinations! “When I’m asked to write about five favourite destinations, my mind immediately goes to Greek islands. But now I’m going to write about five special destinations where you don’t have to get on a boat to go.”
Trikala
Lithaios River, Trikala, Thessaly, Greece.
A city that I have the best memories of, as I stayed there for four years when I was studying at the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science. A picturesque and beautiful city that I visit on every occasion. The river Lithaios runs through the city and a large percentage of residents commute by bicycle, while there are many beautiful places for both running and other forms of exercise.
Litochoro
Beautiful scenery from the gorge of Enipeas, Olympus, Pieria, Greece
So close to the highest peak in Greece but also so close to the sea. A very beautiful place that can be a base for lovers of sports in nature. You can cross the gorge of Enipeas and explore the countless paths of Mount Olympus.
Kavala
A seaside town in Northern Greece with many options in the town with the trademark aqueduct and the castle. Plenty of choice, however, and in the surrounding areas. Mount Paggaio, Paranesti and many others, while it is also very close to the beautiful Thassos.
Parga
The seaside town with the vivid colours. Parga, N. Preveza
A seaside town on the Ionian side now. Beautiful place with natural beauty. Built amphitheatrically with nice colors and a very nice view from the castle. Nearby are Sivota, Igoumenitsa, but also one of my favorite rivers, the river Acheron.
Nafplio
The closest (to Athens) destination from my top five. An excursion that can be a one-day trip. A city full of Greek history and a lot of sightseeing. It has a swimming pool and a beautiful natural swimming pool in the sea. A very nice spot for training but also for resting on the famous beach of Karathonas.
