The resilience of Greek tourism despite the adversities is remarkable

 

Philoxenia is an opportunity to present what is new and innovative in travel services and hospitality, but also in tourism as a whole, said the Minister of Tourism, Mrs Olga Kefalogianni, at the opening of Philoxenia-Hotelia and Real Estate Expo North. He stressed that it is also an opportunity to record and discuss the problems, to talk about a collective responsibility that we have, in order to ensure a sustainable future for the sector. He also welcomed Bulgaria as the Country of Honour, noting that it is of great importance for our country and especially for Northern Greece.

Referring to Greek tourism, she noted that despite the adversities, it has shown remarkable resilience as a whole, because it had solid foundations and has a valuable human capital with increased know-how. According to the data available to date, there has been a significant increase in arrivals and revenues even above pre-pandemic levels.

Events such as Philoxenia are an opportunity to establish a platform for joint cooperation, noted the Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria – Guest Country at the exhibition – Ms. Zaritsa Dinkova. He called it a great honour to be chosen Bulgaria as the Guest of Honour at Philoxenia, thanked the TIF-HELEXPO management for the organisation and invited the Greek side to visit Bulgaria and discover it.

 

Valuable avenues of cooperation that bring together the stakeholders and the people of tourism are opened through the excellent organization of the three exhibitions, as stated the Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia-Thrace), Mr. Stathis Konstantinidis. He added that the extroversion and the scope of the exhibitions are reflected in the number of foreign trade visitors and business meetings, which are extremely encouraging.

In an extremely important year for tourism, Philoxenia, the leading international exhibition of the tourism industry, comes to give further impetus to the growth dynamics of Greek tourism and the creation of new important partnerships and collaborations, noted the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, referring to the increased size and the excellent organization of the event.

The Philoxenia-Hotelia exhibition “duo” has been synonymous with the tourism business for years now, an event that listens to the global tourism market and contributes to the promotion of destinations, according to the mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Konstantinos Zervas, who described the two exhibitions as a very important institution that supports in practice our heavy industry and the people of tourism.

The long-standing support of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) to Philoxenia was underlined by its President, Ms Angela Gerekou, noting that as an organisation it started to support the exhibition since its birth in 1985 and today it is 2023. “The extroversion that Philoxenia has had in recent years is excellent,” he said.

Thessaloniki is preparing to experience another dynamic exhibition weekend with Real Estate Expo North, but also with Philoxenia and Hotelia, as stated the Managing Director of RM International, organizer of Real Estate Expo North, Mr. Kostis Moschonas. “This year we are taking another step and along with the exhibition we are bringing the 3rd Real Estate Forum,” he added.

We have managed in recent years to make the two exhibitions the great celebration of tourism in Greece, said the President of TIF-HELEXPO, Mr. Tasos Tzikas, noting that this year’s exhibition programme closes with a very good event, with increased sizes by 30%. He underlined the presence of Bulgaria as the Country of Honour and the strengthening of ties between the two countries that this reflects.

The Philoxenia and Hotelia exhibitions have attracted a total of 431 participants from the entire spectrum of the tourism industry.

 

Specifically, in Philoxenia the direct exhibitor participation is 211 and the indirect exhibitor participation is 90, up 30% compared to last year’s event, while in Hotelia the number of exhibitors is 130, up 22% compared to last year.

Tomorrow, Saturday 11 November, the three exhibitions will be open from 10:00 to 20:00 and on Sunday 12 November from 10:00 to 18:00.
