“For 10 years our heart beats on the islands“!

With this sentiment, +Float completes 10 years of service to the Greek outlying islands and we set sail forour ^10th AnniversaryCrossing, to eight small and isolated islands from Thursday 18 April to Sunday 28 April 2024.

With the same enthusiasm as if it were our first expedition, but with the valuable experience of previous years, 100 volunteers, with 13 inflatable boats, we will visit Heraklion, Sikinos, Chalki, Tilos, Nisyros, Pserimos, Telendos and Donousa in succession to offer free medical services, cultural activities and infrastructure projects.

The main objective of the mission, with the approval of the ^2nd DYPE and the cooperation of the local medical associations and PIS, is to offer free specialized medical examinations and related health services in more than 20 specialties and fields, such as:

With the substantial support for another year of IASO General Clinic and Biotrans, the safe collection of blood samples from the locusts and their transport for analysis in certified laboratories is made possible. At the same time, hearing tests will take place and free hearing aids will be offered with the support of the company Stamos Hearing Aids, while the ophthalmological examination and offer of vision glasses is supported by the company We will carry out diagnostic tests with portable analysers from the Menarini Diagnostics and with ultrasound from GE Healthcare.

The Voluntary Action of Veterinarians of Greece (E.D.K.E.) is a constant participant in our mission, in the framework of the Unified Health Programme, in order for its volunteers to offer veterinary assistance, care and sterilization to stray and domestic animals of the islands (one health). Also, for another year, we will carry the message of the “Vision of Hope” Association for the voluntary donation of blood cells.

As part of the celebration of 10 years of service, the following will travel with us to Sikinos Olympic champion Sp. Gianniotis and the Olympic athlete A. Drisbiotic, as well as the veteran basketball player D. Diamantidis who will talk to children and young people about sport and fair play. In addition, a concert by MONIKA is scheduled at Episkopi, a monument that has been awarded the European Cultural Heritage Award/Europa Nostra 2022. The Municipality of Sikinos will honour us in a special event with Cycladic instruments and dance.

“As for the other cultural and informative actions for the children and teenagers of the islands, we will carry out:

sex education seminars for adolescents,
robotics and STEAM educational programmes for children,
book presentation and educational game for the book “Is empathy edible?” with the support of Diptra Publications,
story workshop,
plasticine workshop,
shadow theatre performances.

For adults,

the self-care workshop “Learning to take care of ourselves, we offer him the love he deserves!” with the support of Pharmacy295,
information on under-age births (by HOPEGENESIS),
a talk on breast cancer prevention,
a discussion on proper nutrition for children.

The +Float transforms all the sponsorships it receives into projects of public benefit and improvement of health services in the islands, with its volunteers bearing all the costs related to themselves and the operation of the group. In this context, the following infrastructure projects will be inaugurated, which are being implemented thanks to the significant contribution of sponsors:

Construction of a 5×5 polygon in Halki(Kaizen Foundation)
Renovation of the playground in Herakleia(In Memory of Teta Syrigos), the first project of the +flotation in 2014!
Reconstruction of the floating platform at the port of Sikinos(Mylaki Shipping Agency)
Creation of a stone shelter in Mersini of Donoussa(Pharmathen)
Provision of medical machinery and equipment to rural clinics(Premia Properties)
Equipment of public utilities and municipal buildings(private donors – members +float)
Donation of a multi gym equipment and gymnastics equipment to the municipal gym of Sikinos

The aim of these projects is to improve the living standards of the residents and to serve them and the visitors of the islands.

In addition, the Assembly has donated educational and technological equipment, books, toys and consumables, as well as sports equipment, in order to strengthen the educational infrastructure of all levels of the schools of the islands it will visit, thus benefiting and improving the educational process for 300 children in total.
