Christmas with street party and free activities
The Municipality of Athens honors the day Maria Callas was born with reduced general admission at the Maria Callas Museum and a big party for the birthday of the absolute soprano. In addition, it hosts special Christmas activities with free admission for all ages: an original Christmas listening club, a jazz concert accompanied by hot chocolate, free guided tours for people over 65, night adventures and goblin stories. Callas Lives On: The Party!
On the occasion of the legendary soprano’s birth day (2 December 1923), the special street party starts at 20:00 at Petraki Street (behind the Maria Callas Museum), in collaboration with Kosmos 93.6, and a DJ set by the duo of Dimitra Kakaounaki & Giota Kotseta. Guided by the voice of Maria Callas, the evening will start with authentic and “tweaked” operatic excerpts and will gradually culminate with dance rhythms from jazz, funk, afro-beat and nu-disco, creating a dynamic and subversive musical backdrop.
In addition, the Museum’s exhibition spaces will be open to the public on Saturday 7 December from 10:00 am to 00:00 midnight, with reduced general admission. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the museum experience through an interactive journey, enriched by audiovisual media, texts, audio-visual material, and a variety of exhibits.
Christmas at the Maria Callas Museum: Christmas Listening Club with George Florakis | Sunday 15 December, 11:30 – 13:30
If people are in the mood to get together to talk about books, why not do the same for music? The Listening Club of radio producer of ERT’s 3rd Programme and KOSMOS 93.6, George Florakis, visits the Maria Callas Museum with Christmas songs from Lennon to Sinatra and from the Pogues to Bach and a discussion about the melodies, lyrics and the atmosphere they create. His guest is one of the freshest, most ethereal and luminous presences on the Greek music scene, Alkyone, who talks to G. Florakis about her new work and sits at the piano to share her Christmas memories and songs with those who come to the Museum this festive morning. A limited number of seats are available – first come, first served.
Hot Chocolate Jazz Session | 15 December, 17:00 – 19:00
A warm, Christmas afternoon full of jazz tunes and the aroma of delicious chocolate on the 3rd floor of the Museum. At this special live jazz concert, guests will be able to purchase hot chocolate from the Museum’s café and enjoy it on the cozy and welcoming 3rd floor, accompanied by jazz standards, favorite Christmas songs and compositions by female jazz musicians, with the unique performance of three exceptional musicians: Niki Kokkolis – saxophone, Thodoris Ziarkas – double bass, Phoebe Pehlivanidis – piano. The concert is addressed to all ages and promises a unique musical experience for the whole family. Limited number of seats – first come, first served.
Free guided tours & piano on the 3rd floor | Saturday 28 December, 11:00 & 12:00
Adults will be introduced to the world of opera and the great diva through two free guided tours at 11:00 and 12:00. At the same time, from
11:00 to 14:30, pianist Dimitra Kokkinopoulou will perform classical repertoire in the Christmas atmosphere on the 3rd floor of the Museum for all visitors.
Free guided tour for people over 65 years old | Thursday 12 & 19 December, 12:00
A total experience that activates all the senses will be available for 50 minutes for visitors over 65 years old. With the purchase of a ticket they will discover Divina and the art of opera.

Family Educational Programs: Night at the Museum | Sunday 27 December, 17:00 – 18:15, for children 4-8 years old and preparations for a Christmas reception on the 3rd floor of the Museum were in full swing. I wonder if everything went off without a hitch? That night the exhibits were restless, the city was decorated, the Museum visitors were in Christmas mode, the smells of sweets were breaking noses…! Until… a goblin and a few notes from the scores of Maria Callas made it all come true. A festive theatrical play inspired by Christmas and the Museum’s exhibits.
Laughter, inspiration, transformations, expression, creation and entertainment come together to make up the craziest night at the Maria Callas Museum! Reservations are required by phone at 210 44 04 204 (Tuesday – Saturday 10:00-18:00).

Music, mischief, laughter and decorations | Sunday 22 December, 10:00 – 11:00, for children 1-3 years old
Some goblins are very fond of music and the voice of Maria Callas is their inspiration. Just when everything was going well in their workshop and the preparations for the Christmas decorations were on fire, something changed… The magical music suddenly stopped. Would the goblins manage to make all those ornaments? How will they react to this change? What will the music be replaced with to inspire them again?Goblin stories, different materials, colours, music, garlands and everything else that reminds us of Christmas will make up a visual play workshop full of magic. If you believe in something very… close your eyes and you will find it!
