A special code of communication – Seniors!

The way of communicating with the elderly with whom we are called upon to come into contact needs to be special. These people are old and probably have health problems, but often have very high mental capacity. Having had their life experiences, they deal with the problems they are called upon to participate in or solve in a different way than younger people and with more sensitivity and sensitivity. They are more easily offended when we address them as if we were talking to small children. The fact that a person has mobility or other problems does not mean that they are unable to communicate, understand or communicate. Particularly now after the quarantine period, a difficult period for everyone, but especially for the elderly, these issues mentioned earlier are working in multiples. Social isolation, fear, inability to manage situations and loneliness are key conditions for differentiating their behaviour. The approach to the familiar environment of the elderly and caregivers must be done in calm conditions, with special verbal handling and obvious sincere feelings of care and love. Older people are a precious part of our lives, because they are our past, part of our family tree and our DNA. They are the people who, by the standards of Greek society, raised two generations of people, children and grandchildren. Let us try to approach them with special handling of understanding and sensitivity. Let’s not forget to contact them. Then they will be rewarded with the joy of recognition and we will “receive” a piece of their experiences, important elements for the course of our lives.
