Thursday 6 & Friday 7 June 2024 at the library of the Comics Friends Club, Athens

Recognizing the importance of professional partnerships for the book, as well as the need for thoughtful, contemporary editions of children’s and young adult books, the Bureau International de l’Edition Française (BIEF), the French Institute of Greece and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture join forces and organize a professional workshop for publishers of children’s books, books for young people and comic books, in Athens, Greece Thursday 6 and Thursday Friday 7 June 2024.

BIEF is the professional organisation for the promotion of French publishing abroad. Its members – around 300 French publishers – participate in activities such as international book fairs, publication of bilingual catalogues and studies, a platform for targeted information for foreign publishers (www.booksfromfrance.fr), professional events and international meetings.

This workshop aims to offer French and Greek publishers the opportunity to get to know a foreign market in depth – the trends, the actors, the general organisation -, to discuss their activities and their readership, to develop deeper knowledge of the markets and to explore the possibilities of publishing cooperation. All this in a more relaxed environment than at major international book events.

The workshop will be hosted at the library of the Friends of Comics Club (14 Iera Odos Street, Athens), is free of charge and with simultaneous interpretation, while the participating professionals have registered after an open call for interest. It is part of and a continuation of the International Professional Programme of the Thessaloniki International Book Fair (16-19 May 2024). The specialized professional meeting programs with a focus on foreign book markets started in 2022 with the series of Greek-German Let’s Talk workshops (2020 – 2023) and are carried out in cooperation with the respective institutions of each country.
