USEFUL TIPS FOR CARDIOVASCULAR PREVENTION

According to the European Society of Cardiology guidelines for cardiovascular prevention, the following non-pharmaceutical measures are particularly effective in protecting cardiovascular health:
– Maintaining body weight at normal levels, as reflected in a body mass index (the ratio of weight divided by height squared) ranging from 20 – 25 kg/m2. Also, the waist circumference should be less than 94 and 80 cm, respectively in men and women.
– Salt consumption of up to a maximum of 5 g (one small teaspoon per day).

– Eating foods containing high amounts of fibre and avoiding fatty foods. Give priority to wholegrain products, vegetables, fruit and fish.
– Intense physical activity (walking, jogging, cycling or swimming are considered the most beneficial types of exercise) for 2.5 – 5 hours per week or 30 – 60 minutes per day
more days of the week.
– Avoiding and/or stopping smoking, not just reducing the number of cigarettes. There is relatively recent evidence that smoking even 1 cigarette
daily for a long time, can have damaging effects on the cardiovascular system.

Summer gastroenteritis

Gastroenteritis is inflammation of the intestine due to the entry and growth of pathogenic microbes in the gastrointestinal tract. Gastroenteritis is particularly common in summer because high temperatures favour the multiplication of infectious agents in food. General traveller’s gastroenteritis is a common gastroenteritis that occurs during or immediately after travelling.

Tips for avoiding gastroenteritis in the summer.

4 key prevention measures:
1. Do not neglect good hand and food washing before eating.
2. Food must be protected from flies and insects.
3. Food from street vendors, unpasteurised dairy products, drinks of dubious origin, water and ice cubes should not be consumed.
4. Fruit should be peeled when travelling and not eaten with the peel on.
