Tips against Travellers’ Nausea
Travellers’ nausea is the most common medical problem people encounter when travelling. Symptoms of nausea may start suddenly, with dizziness, yawning, headache, cold sweat, stomach churning.
To treat nausea, the following can be used
preventive measures and medicines such as:
- During the journey, sensitive people should sit in the front seats of the bus and look at things far away on the horizon.
- Stabilize the head so that it moves as little as possible.
- At the same time, if you notice that there is another person who is nauseous during your journey, avoid looking at them.
- Avoid eating fatty, spicy or smelly foods before or during your trip.
- To minimise the chances of nausea in children, apply the same principles as for you.
- Avoid drinking alcohol before and during the trip.
- Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of water before and during the trip.
- Wear loose and comfortable clothes on the trip.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES DURING THE CONSUMPTION OF FOOD AND DRINK
- Always wash your hands before eating or drinking.
- Eat only well-cooked and hot food. Avoid raw food (especially shellfish) and salads. Fruits and vegetables are a good choice.
- Consume bottled water. Drinking carbonated drinks is usually a safe choice. Fruit juices should be avoided.
- Avoid ice, unless it is from bottled water.
- Avoid eating from street vendors and buffets unless protective covers are used for the food.
- Avoid eating cold sauces such as mayonnaise and salad dressings, which are usually raw and homemade.
- From sweets, avoid especially desserts, which
contain cream and accompanying sauces.
It is beneficial to take safe fluids to replace fluids and electrolytes.
Follow a light diet: Avoid fats, uncooked vegetables and fruits, coffee, alcohol, and spices.
