The suitcase is gone… and now?

The suitcase is gone… and now?

A not so uncommon phenomenon is losing your suitcase, especially when travelling by plane.

But that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen to us no matter what means we choose to travel by (bus, ferry, etc.).

First of all, panic is the worst advisor, so we learn beforehand what to do in these situations and act accordingly. Whatever means of travel we use, we make sure that we have a label with our contact details (name, mobile phone and email) on our luggage beforehand. If we are travelling by bus, it is good to write down the address where we will settle once we arrive at our destination. To avoid prying eyes, we use a label with a cover.

When we check our luggage with the airline and do not take it with us in the cabin, we know that they are responsible for transporting it. In case they are lost, we will have to report it to the airline counter at the airport and wait for them to send us a confirmation of our request. If within 24 hours the suitcase has not been found they are obliged to compensate us.

On long-distance buses and other means of transport, we are responsible for our luggage. So beware of the “seductions” of the view from our window, of the beautiful one or the beautiful one sitting next to us and of any issues that occupy our minds. Although one will rarely lose one’s suitcase through the KTEL, let’s not forget the label just in case, even for similar suitcases that may get mixed up and believe me it has happened…

Have a good and safe summer!
