He is considered by many to be the leading sports writer of his generation. With thousands of words of reporting, thousands of hours of TV and radio time and thousands of kilometres and nautical miles of travel. Paraphrasing his famous quote, he tells us in the issue you are holding…. “Travel my boy”
1. RETHYMNO
Here I am not objective, because of my chauvinism! I come from there, I have a home, relatives, relatives and friends there, I go there consistently and without fail. I could write a million words about the natural beauty, the people, the food, the tsikoudia and the rich mercies, but I will stick to the verse of the poem by George Stavrianos, which has been recited in a unique way by Katia Dandoulaki: “Rethymno. I return. I had no other choice. I will always return. It’s not just a place where you go, but where you return from. With eyes full of sky. Only sky. Nothing but a deep, blue and clear sky.”
2. ZAKYNTHOS
I had never set foot in it and I first went in 2013, wife beware! The women’s village they say, called Koliomenos. To tell my sin, there’s nothing about Jade that blows me away, but it’s a couple of things together that attract me. And especially the peace and tranquility that the village exudes, while sitting in the café opposite the bell tower.
3. NAFPLIO
Beautiful city. Historical. And above all, in my eyes, atmospheric. You are walking and you feel that suddenly, from around a corner, one of the faces that have written the history of Greece will pop out in front of you. Palamidi, Bourtzi, nice walks in a city that touches you and you feel it…
4. ICARIA
It’s been over twenty years since my second and last visit and I’d like to triple the good stuff at some point. I went there after the Olympics and the World Championships when I was exhausted and I came back a different person. Its relaxed pace and culture is another thing!
5. TINOS
Whether or not you have made a vow, whether or not you want to worship Her grace, whether or not you are attracted by the autopsy at the place where “Ellie” was torpedoed, you will find (and other) things to do with great pleasure. I’m not a glutton, but I love food and I must admit that the one time I travelled there and wandered around the villages, my palate was delighted.
