The Greek wine of winter

We are now in the heart of winter and as our diets are enriched with more fats and animal foods, our wine choices are somehow directed towards more robust, aged, full-bodied wines. From whites we might choose more complex, barrel-passed wines from Assyrtiko Chardonnay, Savvatiano, Moschofilero and from red barrel wines Agiorgitiko, Xinomavro, Limniona, Tsapournako, Mavroudi, Mavrodaphne. Of course, we do not exclude any wine from our table as long as we match it with the corresponding food. In winter, sweet desserts such as Muscat, Mavrodaphne, sun-dried wines, as well as sparkling wines on festive and other days have their place of honour. For those lucky enough to escape the cities, many winter destinations have excellent wineries waiting for us in every corner of Greece. Wine roads abound throughout Greece and always have pleasant surprises in store for us!
