PIRAEUS TASTE FESTIVAL, SEA FOOD AND MORE – The taste journey starts today in Piraeus

 

 

 

 

An eventful gastronomic festival, based on a variety of events, based onbased on the principles of the circular and sustainable social economy, starts today, for the second year, in Piraeus, organized by the Municipality, as part of the celebrations of World Tourism Day.

 

The 2nd Gastronomic Festival,
“Piraeus Taste Festival: Sea Food and More”
will take place from Friday 22 September to Sunday 24 September, with parallel events at Mikrolimano, Alexandra Square, Pasalimani, Kanari Square, Korai Square and Piraeus Square.

 

At the same time, for the first time this year, in Pasalimani, in the framework of the
“Piraeus Taste Festival: Sea Food and More”
and from Thursday 21 September to Sunday 1 October, the Piraeus Food Festival – Piraeus Food and Wine Festival will host a gastronomic products exhibition from Thursday 21 September to Sunday 1 October,

Especially for this year, the Piraeus Taste Festival: Sea Food and Moreis dedicated to sustainable cuisine inspired and guided by the philosophy of zero food waste.

“Our goal is to promote and highlight the gastronomic identity of Piraeus, which can be a key pillar for the further development of tourism and through this festival, which we want to establish as an institution, to attract even more visitors to our city”, said the Mayor of Piraeus,

Mikrolimano

To “Piraeus Taste Festival: Sea Food and More”, “sets sail” with the event “PIRAEUS TASTES”,which will take place on Friday 22 September, at 19:00, in Mikrolimano, where award-winning chefs and masters will present tasty creations inspired by the sea of Piraeus and will introduce us to the secrets of fish eating and wine tasting.

Near us will be the Michelin star award-winning chef Christopher Peskias from the restaurant “Balthazar“, from the restaurant “Papaioannou” the chef Konstantinos Pappas, the Piraeusian Master of Wine, Konstantinos Lazarakis, ο ambassador in the pan-European campaign “Taste the Ocean” chef George Tsolis and the famous food blogger Gogo Papadionysiou (Mamatsita).

The cooking demonstrations will continue throughout the weekend in an original culinary experience with the signature of renowned chefs chef, pastry chef, sommelier – qualified professionals in the wine sector – who will propose their own flavours and creations.

 

Among others, they will present their proposals: the chef at the Tzaneio Hospital of Piraeus, James Apergis, o pastry chef and ambassador of dishcover piraeus, Stefanos Diamantopoulos, o executive chef, Panagiotis Yakalis, o pastry chef Christos Vergados, o chef George Syngelakis, η chef Amalia Kyriakou, etc.

Different culinary cultures, flavours, traditions and destinations mingle in the Piraeus Tdegree Fair” in Piraeus – the historic port city, a crossroads of people and cultures, where people, visions, ideas and flavours have always moved – in order to create the ultimate culinary experience.

Dozens of exhibitors will present the new trends in Greek gastronomy, premium and special products of the Greek land, the most exquisite products of the delicatessen from every corner of Greece and the world, gourmet proposals from smaller producers, traditional flavours, artisanal products, super foods, etc.

Alexandra Square

The collaboration of the Municipality of Piraeus and the executive chefs of the Acropolis Chef’s Club of Attica, continues this year with the “CINEMA ON A PLATE”, The Saturday 23 & the Sunday 24 September, at 19:00, where the live cooking show and the tasting are accompanied by a cinema screening of favourite films in the open-air cinema of the Alexandra Square.

With us will be, the chef Konstantinos Mouzakis, President of the Chef’s Club of Attica Acropolis, Vice President of the European Council of Gastronomy and Oenology of Cueco and chef Europe 2015 and the chef Nikos Filippidis, member of the Acropolis Chef’s Club of Attica and the team of the Presidential Palace, Chef at the 2nd Chefs Gastronomy Catering.

In the context of the internationalisation of the festival, the 2nd “Piraeus TasteFestival: Sea Food and More”, The Saturday 23 September, 11:00-19:00, will be hosted at Alexandra Square on “TASTES OF THE WORLD” with culinary creations, unique exotic flavours and cultural activities, the cultural section of the Chinese Embassy, the Embassy of Panama, the Embassy of Peru, the Consulate of the Dominican Republic, the city of Mendoza, Argentina and ethnic restaurants of the city of Piraeus.

At Piraeus, in the bay of Aphrodite, the Saturday 23 September, on 20:30, in co-organization with the Amateur Fishermen’s Club “Agios Nikolaos”, returns the “FEAST OF THE SWORD”, the traditional celebration of the fishermen of Piraeus, with flavors and aromas of the sea and a big island and folk feast with the Vangelis Konitopoulos.

In cooperation with the Commercial Association of Piraeus and on the occasion of the World Trade Day, the Friday 22 September, the city’s shops will stay open until late at night, in a celebration with treats, flavours and music, happenings and a lunchtime feast in the traditional market, while food shops and cooking schools of our city will present their own flavours and culinary creations.

At the same time, our city’s restaurants participate in the great celebration of gastronomy with menus especially for those days, offers on specific dishes and drinks.

Cycling Tours

During the festival there will be cycling tours of the city’s neighbourhoods. From the local traditional market in Goounari and the surrounding streets, to the ouzeri of Piraiki and from there to the Zea Marina, Pasalimani and the renovated Mikrolimano, a bike tour is the best way to get to know the city’s gastronomic spots. The bike tour is free of charge, is done by electric bicycle and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
